Losing Yourself Is Painful
When you lose yourself, the only thing you can think about is how to find yourself again.
It’s a beautiful feeling to find yourself for the first time.
When you feel you have attained your true self, you feel complete in that moment.
You no longer feel that you are missing something or that you are doing something unnecessary.
It feels perfect and just right.
And then you can live the life you always wanted.
You are confident of yourself and your abilities and you start living every moment to its fullest.
When you can live this way, you achieve all the happiness in the world.
You feel good about yourself, people love you, and you have everything you ever wanted in life.
It would have been perfect if life could go on like this.
But life has its plan for us and it’s never a completely smooth ride.
Thus, many things happen that take us away from being ourselves.
We may start doing things we are not and get lost in the process.
The ups and downs of life sometimes push us into depression and we may lose ourselves for a long time.
It may also happen that we lose ourselves while in a relationship and after a breakup.
And sometimes, success diverts us from the path of being ourselves.
The only thing we can do at that moment is to wonder how to find yourself again.
We want to be ourselves once again but we do not know how we can accomplish that.
So, how to find yourself again?
How To Find Yourself Again
Here is how to find yourself again after having lost yourself.
Do Not Panic
When trying to know how to find yourself again, the first step is to not panic.
When you lose your true self, you are in a state of shock and disbelief.
You don’t know who you are anymore and you are in a lot of confusion and mental discomfort.
You don’t know what to do, whom to trust, and whom not to.
You start doing things you don’t relate to or expect yourself to do but you have to live with it.
It’s a total mess and a recipe for panic.
But you have to have patience and control over yourself.
Tap into your authentic self for a moment and tell yourself it’s going to be okay.
Panicking would only make things worse and drive you towards being someone who is even more distant from your true self.
Thus, panicking is not an option for you when you are trying to find yourself again in life.
When you do not panic, you get closer to knowing how to find yourself again.
Do Not Try To Become Your Old Self Overnight
When trying to know how to find yourself again, the second step is to not try to become your old self overnight.
When you are not your true self anymore, it’s a painful and scary space to be in.
The sheer disbelief of losing yourself makes you want to be yourself again pretty soon.
So, you try too hard to be your old self again but give up disappointed.
This pushes you deeper into the whole where you start losing your confidence.
You start believing that this is your fate now and that you will never be able to be yourself again.
But this is not the truth, it’s just a sign of your hope and self-belief going down.
Thus, do not try to achieve your true self overnight.
When you have lost yourself, you just have to keep believing that you can make your way back to your true self once more.
You have to wait for the right time and the right strategy to do so.
Trying to be your true self overnight might cause you to lose yourself forever.
Thus, you have to be patient enough.
When you do not try to achieve yourself overnight, you take yourself closer to knowing how to find yourself again.
Centre Yourself
When trying to know how to find yourself again, the third step is to center yourself.
When you have moved ahead of the states of panic and trying to become your true self overnight, you have to prepare yourself to become your true self once more.
This would require mental and physical ability of a certain level for which you have to prepare yourself.
You have to bring yourself in a position where you can scan your whole life including the parts where you were your true self and where you were not.
You also have to go in-depth into these periods and analyze them.
For this purpose, you have to stay centered and calm.
Do not let the thought of not being yourself affect your ability to think straight & clearly.
You should also be in a position to have ample control over yourself to make yourself do certain things and refrain from doing certain other things which we will talk about soon.
Thus, you need to be centered enough to have as much control over yourself as possible.
It’s not a difficult thing to do.
You just have to treat the part of yourself that is not your true self like another person.
You have to be his master and give him commands to do certain things.
Thus, you need to be confident and in control of yourself before you start the actual process of retrieving your true self.
When you succeed in staying centered, you get close to knowing how to find yourself again.
Remember What You Are Not
When trying to know how to find yourself again, the fourth step is to remind yourself of all the things you are not and then stop doing those things.
For this, you have to go back in time and remember the time when you started doing things you were not and which took you away from your true self.
The trigger for these things may have been some kind of an addiction, a toxic relationship, some kind of personal loss that pushed you into depression, or your overconfidence after you became successful.
So, just think of the things these triggers made you do which started changing you as a person.
Another important thing to mention at this stage is that you don’t have to feel scared guilty or pained about these incidents about your past.
Also, do not judge yourself either for committing “mistakes”.
Sometimes things happen in life and we just have to learn from them without judging ourselves.
So, always remember that it wasn’t your fault that you deviated from your true self.
Coming back to the process, just get a normal overview of these ‘non-you’ things that you started doing that you have continued doing until now.
Make a list of the triggers and these things.
These are the things that we have to push out of our life.
So, to do this, first, you have to make yourself believe once again that these things aren’t a part of who you are.
Thus, stop relating yourself to these things.
Keep telling yourself that these things don’t control you or define you.
Tell yourself that they are not a part of you or your life.
You can also use affirmations and journaling if you want.
When your belief starts getting stronger, you will also stop doing these things.
A stage would come when you would be able to completely dissociate yourself from all the things you once were not.
When you stop being who you are not, you are well on your way to discovering how to find yourself again.
Remind Yourself Who You Truly Are
When trying to know how to find yourself again, the fifth step is to remind yourself who you truly are or want to be again.
Now that you have eliminated the unwanted part that took you away from your true self, you are in a position to once again become your true self.
For this, you have to go back to the good old days when life was simpler and most beautiful.
Remember, how you used to think and feel.
Remind yourself of all the things you did and all the things that together represented the true you.
Remember as much as you can of all the good memories and get under the skin of the person you were then.
Feel as if you are that person again.
Now, make a list of all these things you used to do and which defined you as a person and start doing them.
Keep doing them until they once again become a part of you.
This is how the things you were not, would be replaced with the things you used to be, hence helping you find your true self again.
When you remember who you truly are, you learn how to find yourself again.
Be Patient And Let Change Happen
When trying to know how to find yourself again, the last step is to be patient and let change happen.
If everything goes well and happens timely, you will soon be able to find yourself again.
But if it doesn’t happen quickly do not worry.
You just need to be patient and continue believing in the process of change.
Sometimes, when the pain and struggle of being away from your true self is high, it takes a little longer to find your way back to your true self.
But when you do, this time it stays for life.
So, just be patient and keep doing the various steps of the process in the right way.
You just have to ensure that you do not lose sight or track of the right path and soon you will be able to attain your true self once again.
So, stay hopeful, positive, and motivated, and soon your life will be beautiful again.
When you learn to be patient, you are certain to discover how to find yourself again.
Constant Belief Is The Key
Only if you are determined enough would you find out how to find yourself again.
When you lose yourself in life, it feels that you will never be able to recover your true self again.
But you should never lose hope and should always stay positive.
Tell yourself that deviation from your true self and your true path in life would only enrich you.
Make yourself believe that you will find your way back and achieve your true self once again.
And when you do, you will be something even better than before.
Thus, finding your true more enriched self would also enhance your self love in the same proportion.
You would experience a newfound respect for yourself and thus would be able to appreciate yourself even more than before.
Thus, if you are lost, stop wondering how to find yourself again and start the journey back to your true self.
